Veteran's Community Project Led by Stanton 4th Graders

Last year students in Stanton Elementary's 4th grade class watched a CNN10 episode about a community project to build tiny homes for homeless veterans in Kansas City. The students decided to make Veteran's Day cards to send.

This year, the 4th graders wanted to do more. After brainstorming ways they could help and decided to collect items to donate. They connected with the office manager to ask what items were needed most. She shared that most veterans that live in the homes take the bus to work, appointments, etc. and winter can be very tough for them. Things like chapstick, hand and feet warmers, hats, and gloves would go a long way.

The students got their community involved by creating and distributing posters, sending emails to parents, and talking with the elementary students about donating items.
