  1. Writing IEPSCourse #160450

    2. This course is designed to assist educators involved in the IEP process to gain knowledge and implementation skills related to IDEA '04 (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and completion of all relevant forms and processes. Participants will understand the requirements and write IEPs to include Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance, IEP Goals, Progress Monitoring Procedures/Graphing, Special Education Services, Least Restrictive Environment Considerations, and Progress Reports using all required forms including the Iowa IEP. In addition, conducting 3-year Reevaluations, Prior Written Notice, Functional Behavior Assessment, Behavior Intervention Plans, Early Childhood, and Transition Planning are covered. The process of "suspecting disabilities," and essentials of the Iowa Child Find process and the documentation process using the Educational Evaluation Report (EER) are also part of this course.
  2. Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Planning for Practitioners

    3. Participants will learn to operationally define target behaviors and conduct a technically sound functional behavior assessment designed to answer specific questions. Indirect and direct methods of assessing function will be taught and applied. Participants will learn how to analyze and then synthesize assessment data in order to write a descriptive summary leading to a hypothesis about the function of the targeted behavior(s). Participants will learn how to link these results to appropriate, function-based interventions. Data collection resources will be modeled and practiced in class and within the natural environment. Coaching opportunities will be provided by members of the Challenging Behavior Team and the AEA trainee cohort of Advanced Functional Behavior Assessment.
  3. Introduction to Project CRISSCourse #GH-14780

    2. The Introduction to Project CRISS course is designed to help teachers develop and deepen their understanding of effective methods for teaching metacognition and learning strategies, including reading, writing, visualizing, and organizing within the content areas. The Introduction to Project CRISS courses includes Frameworks for Teaching and Learning and specific strategies which teachers can use to: elicit prior knowledge, help students recognize main ideas from content reading assignments, develop learning and study guides, use writing and discussing to reinforce learning, improve vocabulary instruction, and organize and transform content information for long-term retention. Project CRISS is a powerful option for a district-wide (PK-12) Instructional Framework that shifts the focus from teaching to learning, from what adults are doing to how students are taking ownership of their own learning. CRISS will help establish a common vocabulary and concise set of elements for effective instruction, making Instructional Coaching, mentoring, and evaluation clear and consistent processes.
  4. Creating Psychological Safety in School -Course #180379

    2. Participants will explore issues surrounding psychological safety in schools. Time will be spent on the topics of suicide prevention and intervention, grief support, threat assessment, and best practice for mental health practice in schools.
  5. The Right Track - Mentor Training Year 1

    2. The Right Track Mentor Training develops skills in peer observation, adult learning, observation and data collection, practice for reflective questioning, providing effective feedback and coaching; an understanding of the change process and phases of development; and strategies for guiding and supporting beginning educators including social and emotional support. The skills for coaching, collaboration and consulting are the centerpiece of the training of mentors.
  6. Foundations of Behavioral Principles -Course #180171
    1. August 14 and 15 in Avoca
    2. Participants will explore the science of behavior and how it relates to children who demonstrate repeated behavioral errors.  By the completion of the course, participants will apply the concept of function based thinking to everyday work with students.  Participants will explore and use a variety of data collection tools to assist in determining function accurately.
